📍 Exeter: Supporting the RSPB in the Field
Beyond Driving recently delivered LANTRA 4×4 Operator training to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) near Exeter. These sessions equipped field staff with the essential knowledge to operate vehicles in challenging habitats without causing damage to sensitive ecological sites. It was a fantastic day’s training and we look forward to delivering additional disciplines to the RSPB team in future.
📍 Cheddar: Bespoke 4×4 Operator Package for Openreach
In the hills near Cheddar, Beyond Driving tailored a bespoke off-road training course for Openreach, focusing on vehicle control in wet and rutted environments. As Openreach engineers often work in rural or remote locations, this training ensured their safety while maintaining critical infrastructure.
📍 Tiverton: UTV Training for Oxygen Conservation
We spent a productive few days near Tiverton delivering LANTRA Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) operator training to the team at Oxygen Conservation. Working on rewilding and land management projects, they needed practical skills to handle UTVs across varied and unpredictable terrain — and that’s exactly what we delivered.
📍 Cheltenham & Gloucestershire: Training with the Animal and Plant Health Agency
Our work near Cheltenham included a full LANTRA 4×4 course for the Animal and Plant Health Agency. This DEFRA-linked body operates across rural areas inspecting farms, wildlife sites, and forests, making competent off-road driving essential to their daily work.
We also trained the team at UK Teleport Ltd, delivering LANTRA UTV operator training on a variety of off-road scenarios around Gloucestershire — a great day’s work with another forward-thinking organisation.
Emergency Services Off Road: Training for South Western Ambulance Service HART
Perhaps the most intensive training we’ve delivered in the South West this year has been for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust HART (Hazardous Area Response Team).
Over a number of weeks, our instructors worked with teams near Bristol and Exeter, delivering LANTRA 4×4 training in preparation for the rollout of their new Toyota Hilux ambulances. These specialist vehicles are designed to access hard-to-reach locations during major incidents, floods, and rural rescues — and it’s essential that drivers know exactly how to handle them.
Beyond Driving was able to provide:
