Where Can You Find Expert Off-Road Training in the West Midlands?

When your teams operate in wild terrain, haul loads across sites, or manage land and conservation projects, proper driver training isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. That’s why organisations like Worcestershire Wildlife Trust trust Beyond Driving to deliver professional 4×4 and trailer handling training right here in the West Midlands.

Last week, we returned to a familiar training ground near Pershore to run two practical, Lantra-accredited courses over consecutive days—each tailored to the real vehicles and working environments of the Trust’s team.

Day One: Lantra 4×4 Operator Training

The first day saw our instructors working alongside a group from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust on a Lantra 4×4 operator course. With both Beyond Driving’s Toyota Hilux and the Trust’s trusty Land Rover Defender on hand, we were able to offer detailed vehicle familiarisation, technical training, and a deep dive into safe off-road operation in challenging environments.

We covered:

  • Vehicle checks and mechanical sympathy
  • Driving techniques for soft ground, inclines and ruts
  • Real-world application of 4×4 systems
  • Risk awareness and driver decision-making

And with the stunning Worcestershire landscape as a backdrop, it’s safe to say the views were as impressive as the skills being developed.

Day Two: Lantra Trailer Handling Course

The following day, the focus shifted to trailers—often overlooked, but absolutely vital for conservation and land-based operations. Our Lantra Trailer Handling course included a mix of hands-on driving and reversing exercises, safety checks, coupling/uncoupling practice and load distribution principles.

We used the Trust’s own Land Rover and trailer setup, ensuring training was immediately transferable to their everyday work.

As always, the emphasis was on safe, legal, and confident operation—whether that’s towing tools across a reserve or navigating narrow rural tracks.
