Who Is the BORDA Standard Course For?
The BORDA Standard Level course is suitable for:
- Local government and highways teams

- Commercial fleet drivers
- Private individuals using 4×4 vehicles off-road
It is designed for those operating in terrain with moderate slopes (around 25 degrees), with run-out areas and reasonable traction—conditions typically found in rural, agricultural, forestry, or infrastructure environments.
Course Content Overview
The course goes beyond the basics, covering key 4×4 driving disciplines:
- Traction and control techniques
- Safe ascents and descents
- Navigating ruts, ditches, and side slopes
- Risk awareness and vehicle preservation
- Vehicle checks and safety procedures
Training includes Units 1–11 of the BORDA framework, with additional modules based on a training needs analysis to ensure the content matches your team’s requirements.
Delivery Options
Our BORDA Standard Level course is delivered:
- On a 2:1 instructor-to-candidate ratio over a full day, or
- On a 3:1 ratio over an extended day
This ensures participants receive detailed, hands-on instruction and plenty of time to practise new skills.
Training takes place using your organisation’s own 4×4 vehicles (where appropriate), or at one of our approved regional centres using our fleet.
