Today marked the first day of Lantra Trailer Handling training, covering all necessary legislation for full compliance along with essential practical skills. The Vital Role of His Majesty’s Coastguard
As one of the UK’s foremost 999 services, His Majesty’s Coastguard plays a pivotal role in safeguarding lives around the coastline and at sea. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, the Coastguard is the nation’s national maritime emergency service, offering assistance to those in distress with unwavering dedication and commitment.
Dedicated Volunteer Network
At the heart of the Coastguard’s operations are over 300 coastguard rescue teams comprising approximately 3,500 volunteers. These local heroes, serving as coastguard rescue officers, respond to a wide array of incidents, including challenging cliff and mud rescues, demonstrating remarkable courage and selflessness in their efforts to keep communities safe.
Professional Expertise and Response
In addition to its volunteer force, His Majesty’s Coastguard boasts over 400 highly trained staff who handle a diverse range of services, responding to over 36,000 incidents annually. Spread across the UK, from Falmouth to Shetland, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) oversee operations along more than 11,000 miles of coastline, coordinating the deployment of various assets, including independent and RNLI lifeboats, helicopters, and aircraft support.
