Driving Instructor Check Test Changes
The DSA have recently announced a change to the Role-Play subjects for Check Tests.
These were initially changed so that the instructor was told the ‘pupil’s’ standard, and the subject on which they were seeking tuition 5 minutes before the start of the test. Due to some pressure from Driving Instructor bodies such as DIDU, the guidelines for a roleplay check test have changed and are as follows.
From the 1st February 2007, the ADI will be able to choose the subject of the lesson from the ‘role play’ subjects listed (see below) and simply tell the examiner the lesson plan on the day.
However, the examiner will still decide on the day at what level – beginner, partly trained etc. the role play will be conducted at.
A remedial lesson
Junctions
Mirrors and a manoeuvre
Pass Plus module
Dual carriageways and open roads
Meet, cross, overtake, anticipation pedestrian crossings.
MSM and pedestrian crossings.
Advanced / fleet drivers..
Extended, disqualified drivers.
The check test invitation (ADI 40) will include this list of role-play check test subjects and the list will be available on the DSA website.
Please ensure that you know exactly what is happening on your roleplay check-test, as the DSA has not yet published these guidelines, and this information has simply been posted on various of the Driving Instructor forums. If there are any queries about check tests, the SEADI who is carrying out the check test can usually be contacted before the test in order to clarify things - please ensure you do this before the day of your test.
UPDATE 18.05.07: Apparently there is a new option of MSM and Pedestrian Crossings where the examiner will portray a trained customer.
We’ll keep you updated on this.
